Popular French shoe brand Veja has opened a sustainable 'store of the future' called Veja x Darwin located in former military barracks in the French city of Bordeaux.
The sustainable outlet is dedicated to recycling and repairing old and used Veja sneakers. The customers can also buy previous design prototypes with minimal defects or past season shoes. Through this initiative, the brand wants to "establish a blueprint for how to help reform the issue of waste and recycling in the fashion industry".
To create the hub's interiors Veja collaborated with architecture studio Le Bureau Baroque which used locally sourced wood for the design.
Additionally, the outlet is powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.
The brand wrote on their social media: "Thought as a laboratory, VEJA x Darwin is meant to create the store of the future. It brings together never launched prototypes, sneakers with minimal defects at reduced prices and a few pairs from old collections. A shoemaker's workshop will clean and repair worn pairs, while those in poor condition will be collected and recycled.VEJA worked on a rough space with limited waste."
