What Is Organic Coconut Sugar?

As the harmful effects of sugar and high fructose corn syrup become increasingly more evident, people are turning to natural alternatives…Well allow me to introduce you to - Coconut Sugar!

This sugar is derived from the coconut palm tree and is touted as being more nutritious and lower on the glycaemic index than conventional sugars; it is collected by making a cut on the flower of the coconut palm whereby the liquid sap can be collected into containers, from here all we need to do is evaporate some of the water content and voila! A nice, simple, natural process to compliment and nice, simple and natural product!

With a rich, naturally caramel flavour similar to a light Muscovado Sugar, This sugar is super for all types of sweet cooking and baking! From a crumble topping to your own handmade chocolates, coconut sugar gives your recipes a rounded and natural sweetness.

Why Should I Get Organic Coconut Sugar?

Compared with table and brown sugars, coconut sugar has impressive amounts of nutrients as well as antioxidants, with the most notable of these being Iron, Zinc, Calcium and Potassium, along with some short chain fatty acids and polyphenols, but it doesn’t stop there!

Coconut sugar also contains good amounts of inulin, a type of dietary fibre you don’t digest in your upper gastrointestinal tract. Instead, inulin acts as a prebiotic, feeding your intestinal bifidobacterial (a probiotic) and the very presence of Inulin slow glucose absorption and explain why coconut sugar has a lower glycaemic index than regular table sugar.

We find that Coconut Sugar actually tastes sweeter than cane sugar, so we can use a smaller quantity in our recipes to get the same sweetness. Ultimately, Coconut sugar is wonderful when used for sweetening chocolate, cakes, biscuits and puddings or if like me you like a hot drink to start your day, you will be very happy to hear that its works miracles when used to sweeten drinks such as Hot Chocolate, Tea, Coffee or milkshakes.
