Tennis superstar Venus Williams partnered with beverage company Dyla Brands to launch vegan protein company called Happy Viking.
Their first product is a plant-based protein shake designed to help post-workout recovery. It features a combination of Complete Body Mind Macronutrients and nourishes brain and body health.
Williams said: “There’s so many myths out there you need to learn about. Vegans get lots of protein. There’s so many ways to do it.”
Happy Viking contains 20 grams of protein per serving, essential amino acids and branched-chain amino acids, macronutrients, DHA-Omega 3 and sunflower oil.
The shake is available in two flavours: Vanilla Bean and Triple Chocolate.
Williams said the Happy Viking name comes from her own warrior spirit and she wants to help others to “find their inner Viking” through a plant-based diet.
The athlete suffers an autoimmune disease called Sjögren’s Syndrome that causes extreme fatigue and joint pain. With the help of doctors, she started following a plant-based diet and credited it for her better health and performance on the court.
She said: “When I first started eating plant-based, it was for health reasons. I couldn’t play tennis. I was thrown in the lifestyle by my wonderful sister Serena.”
“I learned a lot about it. A plant-based lifestyle is what you need for optimal health and ageing well.”
Over the last years, she has co-worked with renowned sports doctors and nutritionists to create a plant-based nutrition formula to fit her demanding lifestyle.
