OmniGreat news for UK shoppers! Vegan Spam is finally here! The super realistic pork alternatives from OmniPork have just landed at Might Plants plant-based food supermarket. OmniPork products are a plant-based alternative to pork, made from shitake mushrooms, pea protein, soy and rice. From now on, you can buy OmniPork online in three versions: vegan Luncheon, vegan Strips and vegan ground pork...
OmniPork Luncheon Meat is “the world’s first luncheon meat made entirely from plants.” Vegan spam is the healthier replacement for spam as it is rich in protein and provides lots of calcium, potassium and dietary fibre while containing 0 mg cholesterol. It also has fewer calories, less fat and lower sodium levels when compared to traditional spam meat. (It has 49 per cent less fat and 62 per cent less sodium.)
It makes a perfect alternative for those who love spam but are looking to replace it with something healthier.
OmniPork Ground Meat and OmniPork Strips can be used in many vegan recipes or simply replace pork Asian dishes, dumplings, Bolognese sauce, and traditional pies.
OmniPork is a plant-based meat brand owned by OmniFoods, a part of the Chinese conglomerate Green Monday on a mission to make our food system more sustainable.
“Eating isn’t just about filling up our stomachs and absorbing the daily nutrition we need. It’s also about satisfying our cravings. So I am very excited to finally provide a healthier plant-based alternative,” said David Yeung, founder of Green Monday and OmniFoods, in a press release.
“We have seen an incredible response to our product in Asia and the UK,” he added.
“Our product is for anyone looking for a more sustainable, healthier alternative to their favourite animal-based pork products.”
Plant-based meat dishes in restaurants
OmniPork debuted in the UK in January, initially as a part of a soft launch in nine restaurants across the UK, including Park Chinois in London, Eat Chay in Shoreditch, Plant Hustler in Bournemouth, Erpingham House in Norwich and Brighton and Rasa Sayang in Brighton, and food-delivery brands Kay Kay Foods, Alta Foods and Viet Vegan.
The select locations serve Asian menu dishes with OmniPork. The menus include mapo tofu, dumplings, noodle salads, bibimbap, and Western classics such as vegan pork burgers, marinated aubergine, and Scotch Egg with OmniPork.
OmniPork is also present on the menu in Michelin-starred restaurant Court in Hong Kong, McDonald’s, and Green Monday’s very own chain of vegan restaurants called Kind Kitchen.
