The Independent published a fantastic article advocating giving up animal products during the observance of Lent - 40 days and nights of abstinence from vices, carried out by Christians and Non Christians alike.

Writer Mimi Bekhechi wrote ''Today marks the first day of Lent, and many people around the around the world – even those who don't consider themselves practising Christians – are gearing up for 40 days of abstention from some perceived vice or other. We've all heard that Theresa May has given up crisps – a popular choice, alongside alcohol, chocolate, and fizzy drinks.

But what if there was something you could give up that could not only improve your own health but also help combat climate change and save lives? Who wouldn't want that kind of bang for their buck?''

She makes a compelling case for veganism, alternating between harrowing information about the cruelty of animal agriculture, whilst showcasing amazing vegan options across high street restaurant chains, showing that in today's culture, being vegan is easier than ever.

Her piece de resistance? The ultimate truth bomb “Veganism also goes hand in hand with Christian values of compassion and respect for all creation,” Bekhechi writes. “After all, the Garden of Eden was vegan.”

Vegan Meat and Cheese replacements are more prevalent then ever, so if you are giving up animal produce for Lent, you won't be stuck for choice, and best of all, you can tuck into your delicious meal knowing it came without a side of cruelty.
