Vegan Brand Sells Leather Wallets Made From Apple Waste And Wood

Vegan accessories brand Oliver Co. has created wallets and cardholders made from apple waste and wood.

The London based startup was founded in 2017 by Matt Oliver, a product designer who wanted to combine sustainability with design, craftsmanship and premium aesthetics.

The company is using innovative sustainable fabrics and working with high-end manufacturers to deliver minimalistic, highly functional products for its customers.

The accessories are manufactured using 'wood leather' which is made from thin sheets of wood bonded to fabric using an 'environmentally friendly' adhesive. Small laser etchings are then applied to achieve a 'soft leather-like touch'.

The wood used in the process comes from FSC approved forests and reduces the C02 emissions by approximately 60 per cent compared to one square meter of animal-leather.

The 'apple leather' is made using 50 per cent apple waste and 50 per cent polyurethane. The combination of those two ingredients creates a 'soft but durable material'.

The apple waste comes from Bolzano, Italy, and results in lower CO2 emissions compared to other fake-leathers.

In a statement sent to Plant Based News, Oliver Co. said: "Sustainability is about going further than just the ingredients in a product. Oliver Co. works closely with its European suppliers to ensure a high standard of ethics is maintained from production of the materials through to product manufacturing.
