Vegan Brand Follow Your Heart Recycles Its Waste Into Park Benches and Bins

One of world's oldest vegan brands Follow Your Heart, has been diverting 98% of its waste through traditional recycling, composting, reducing, and reusing programs since 2016.

Now, the brand has partnered with the waste management company TerraCycle and created a program to eliminate the waste that cannot be recycled through traditional methods due to the complexity of their materials.

The company set up three zero-waste boxes in their headquarters: The Candy and Snack Wrappers Box to collect waste in break rooms; The Office Supplies Box to collect pens, paper clips, label sheet backing, tape dispensers, and more; and the Plastic Packaging Box to collect flexible and rigid plastic packaging waste.

All of these materials can later be reused in the production of park benches, recycling bins, bike racks and shipping pallets.

The company has also replaced the adhesive on its products with easy to remove labels and started using a recyclable alternative to the labelling rolls.

This amounts to diverting 1,000 pounds of waste from landfills each month.

Follow Your Heart founder Bob Goldberg said. “Sustainability is simply an important part of being a responsible business in today’s world.

“It’s time for every business to contribute to changing the world for the better."
