This Company Is Minimising Your Dog's Carbon Footprint

Did you know that a dog’s carbon footprint can be twice as big as a 4x4 car?

Did you know that a dog’s carbon footprint can be twice as big as a 4x4 car?

As a nation full of dog-lovers, we are probably polluting this planet w lot! And it isn't easy to understand for a pet owner. How is it possible?

The responsibility lays on us - or rather what feed our pets with. Our pets' meat based diets have a terrible impact on the environment. Animal farming is the biggest polluter on the planet through its greenhouse emissions - especially methane. Plus, to produce meat we need a lot of land, use a lot of energy and water. If you add your dog's toys, grooming products and accessories to this, the environmental cost becomes very high.

Don't worry too much though! There are ways to reduce your dog’s environmental impact.

There is a company in the UK that is making your dog's carbon footprint more like an electric car or as they say even a push bike.

Beco Pets offers eco-friendly non toxic pet accessories for dogs and cats. The products are made with recycled materials like bamboo, cotton, rice husk, food-grade silicone and plastic from recycled bottles.

The brand came to life when two friends and animal-lovers, George and Toby, found out how many chopsticks go to waste. Together, they started to think about what could be made out of the excess product. And that's how Beco pets accessories were born!

The first product of the duo was recycled bamboo pet bowls made from the chopstick production waste. Today, the brand's range includes everything a pet-owners and their pets need with a low impact on the planet. Beco only uses eco-friendly, BPA-Free and safe materials like cotton, bamboo, rice husk, food-grade silicone, and recycled plastic-water bottles! Can you imagine your dog chewing a toy made with petroleum-based plastics anyway? Even their pooping bags are made from plant-based material - cornstarch. They are either recyclable or compostable, bigger and stronger than petroleum-based bags and will never let you down. Plus, they will help you to keep our streets tidy.

At Beco environmental strategy equals business strategy. Since its inception, the company has been working to help you reduce the environmental impact of your pet. It started with a love of dogs, followed by the acknowledgement that giving them the life they deserve (plus a little extra) has an impact that needs to be challenged.

The company uses solar panels for energy at their HQ. They have committed to donating 1% of every sale to social and environmental causes and reduced the amount of virgin plastic in our best selling products. Additionally, they offset 100% of their CO2 emissions.
