Restaurant chain Taco Bell has added oat-based vegan meat to its menus in Finland and Spain. The new offering is called “Oatrageous Taco”— and it’s a crunchy taco made with plant-based oats meat and legumes.
The oat-meat is prepared using the same seasonings as the meat version so the customers will not be able to tell the difference. The chain tested the new product in its locations in Finland and later introduced it in Spain. Taco Bell plans to launch the vegan meat option across Europe in 2020.
The new taco is no completely vegan though. The chain uses dairy products such as cheese and cream for the dressings. The company says it focuses on providing its customers with more vegetarian options. Earlier this year it confirmed that it would not use plant-based meat made by companies like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, choosing to create its own meat alternative.
Taco Bell is the latest fast-food chain to add a new plant-based meat option.
