The high street health and beauty chain Superdrug has said its sales of vegan products spiked in January thanks to ethically conscious consumers.
Superdrug said Veganuary helped to drive sales of vegan products by 30 per cent last month.
Speaking to inews Superdrug's commercial director, Simon Comins, said:
"We started using the term 'vegan' around five years ago now when we saw more of our customers were searching online and using that terminology, so it was important for us to look at what we had and dial up the vegan credentials.
"Being vegan and cruelty-free is extremely important for our customer. I think we are absolutely leading the way on vegan."
Superdrug is also working with its own third-party brands for more environmentally friendly offerings.
"As a brand, we're challenging our suppliers to be more sustainable, and we want to support those guys in making changes," he said.
"We're constantly working through what our CSR [corporate social responsibility] plans are, and we're in the process of putting that together as a plan for the next few years."
Many businesses admit to benefiting from the rising popularity of Veganuary.
The concern for climate emergency and animal welfare has extended beyond the food industry to health and fashion.
