Foods for Tomorrow, a vegan company from Barcelona announced that it had raised 250,000€ from NEOTEC Program of the Center for Industrial Technological Development. The innovation programme is backed by the Spanish government.

The two-year program will support the further development and expansion of Foods for Tomorrow’s vegan meat brand Huera.

The plant-based meat range currently includes chicken nuggets, strips, burgers, meatballs, snacks and pizza. The products are made from soy, olive oil, spices and are enriched with vitamin B12.

Huera meat-free products are currently available in major supermarkets in Spain, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The company plans to start distributing its products in the United States and Canada this year.

Foods for Tomorrow co-founder Bernat Añaños said: “Our mission is to stop the exploitation of animal sources and democratize access to delicious, nutritious, and sustainable plant-based meat, and being supported by the NEOTEC program validates the need to move to a more sustainable food system.

“This change is going to happen; what we want is to accelerate it as much as possible. Being part of the NEOTEC Program is a great sign that institutions are joining what a lot of companies and consumers were already doing. If governments and international organizations such as the UN or the EU support plant-based meat companies … it will be a huge win for the protein switch.”
