The Scottish SPCA (Scottish Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) urgently needs to find homes for small and exotic pets which are currently in the care of its Angus, Fife and Tayside Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

The charity is reaching the capacity in their centres so the team is trying to find loving homes for some animals to free up space for more pets in need.

The animals that are currently looking for homes include two single rabbits, a pair of rabbits, two snakes, one leopard gecko and two fish named Elvis and Presley.

Centre assistant manager, Dale Christie, said: “Coconut is our adorable leopard gecko. She has had some issues shedding so will need experienced owners.

“Our corn snakes Bean and Grace will need to be rehomed separately. It can be very hard to find homes for snakes but they do make a fascinating pet. Once their requirements are catered for, they can be less maintenance than a furry pet! Both snakes will need owners who understand their specialist needs.

“Tails and Floki are our solo rabbits who need individual homes. Tails is eight months old and Floki is only three months. Tails is well handled but still a bit timid and Floki doesn’t seem to have had much human interaction. New owners will need to have patience while the rabbits become used to them and are able to come out of their shell at their own pace. Tails could potentially live with children aged 10 years and over and Floki would rather live with adults.

“Our bun pair is Salt and Pepper. They are both three years old and female and will need an outside enclosure with plenty of space and enrichment to keep them happy and healthy. They would prefer to live in an adult only home.

“Elvis is an Oscar fish and Presley is a catfish. They can live for a very long time so they are quite a commitment. A new owner will need to have knowledge of their care."

As Scotland’s animal welfare charity SPCA has been protecting animals and preventing cruelty for 180 years. Following their mission is to make the world a better place for animals and people, the organisation takes care of over 15,000 animals per year and do everything they can to change the lives of pets and people. They encourage respect and kindness for animals across all our communities, educate 200,000 people every year about the welfare of animals,  promote the importance of the human/animal bond, they care for, rescue, rehabilitate, release and rehome abandoned animals. The charity also brings those who abuse animals to justice and work undercover to expose crimes against animals such as the illegal puppy trade.

There are many ways you can support the Scottish SPCA - you can donate money and become a member of the association (every penny makes a difference!), you can buy one of the animal-friendly items from their online shop, you can donate items such as pet food and blankets, you can sponsor space for animals in the centre, get involved in fundraising or gift to the SPCA in your will and more.

If you are interested in helping any of these exotic animals you can apply online and learn more about them from SPCA website by clicking here.

Remember this: rescue animals make great pets!
