Revo Foods starts sales of plant-based smoked salmon in Austrian supermarkets.
Plant-based alternatives for seafood lack in product variety, but a new innovative product by the new startup "Revo Foods" is about to change this.
The mission of Revo Foods is to give fish lovers an ideal alternative for their favourite products to avoid overfishing and the destruction of the marine ecosystem.
This Austria-based company developed a plant-based alternative for smoked salmon.

The product is launching in retail for the first time. It will be sold in the supermarket chain "Billa Plus" (part of the German REWE Group).
The retail launch follows the participation of Revo Foods in the TV show "2 Minuten 2 Millionen" (Austrian version of "Shark Tank"), where the startup received interest from well-known investors.
The vegan salmon mimics conventional salmon in texture and flavour.
The "Revo Salmon" has achieved unique approval ratings among early consumers. People who tried the plant-based salmon rate the taste experience at more than 85% as "extremely positive" or "very positive".

The nutritional content is another benefit for consumers. Revo's salmon alternative combines high Omega-3 and pea protein content while avoiding contaminants such as microplastics, antibiotics, and heavy metals found in conventional seafood.
Currently, Revo is working on expanding its product portfolio.
The new products include a tuna alternative and smoked salmon spread. Both products will be released in early 2022, following the launch of sushi/sashimi products later that year.
The company also plans an international expansion, including launching its vegan products in the UK market as a next step.
Revo Foods CEO Robin Simsa told The Vegan Kind: “We are extremely happy and proud to finally launch our first product on the market. It has taken us more than 2 hard years of development, but we see that this all pays off now. Many of our customers cannot believe that this is a vegan product, and they actually believe we are serving them real salmon. For us, this is the biggest compliment of course, as we want to recreate the salmon taste as precisely as possible.”
