Plant-Based For The Planet - The Vegan Kind Spreads Climate-Friendly Message During COP26 In Glasgow

The Vegan Kind have been as active as possible during the first week of COP26 in an attempt to get a positive, plant-based message out to as many people as possible.

As most of us are acutely aware, COP26, the U.N. gathering of world leaders to discuss the climate emergency, is a critically important moment in the history of our precious planet. As carbon emissions rise year after year, it’s imperative that as many people as possible are aware of just how much of a difference they can personally make by simply going vegan, thus drastically reducing their carbon footprint.

With this in mind, The Vegan Kind have been as active as possible in an attempt to get a positive, plant-based message out to as many people as we absolutely can one week into the event. Conveniently for us, this year’s conference is held in our hometown of Glasgow! This gives us a unique opportunity to get some boots on the ground and make an immediate, face to face connection with people from all over the world.

Marching Along

We have so far twice marched through the streets of Glasgow in solidarity. First, during the Fridays for Future rally organised by school children from around the world, and then again on Saturday’s Global Day for Climate Justice march. Rallying side by side with thousands of like-minded people from a whole range of ages, backgrounds, cultures, and countries, we proudly carried aloft our “Plant-based for The Planet” TVK banner.

Dressed in newly-branded TVK hoodies, our CEO Scott and staff members Lucy, Eve, Angus, Hayleigh, Lucy and Jim handed out fliers and had friendly chats with open and curious marchers about what The Vegan Kind does, and what the benefits of switching to a plant-based diet can do for yourself, animals, and the planet as a whole. The fliers read:

“Did you know? By going vegan you can reduce your carbon footprint from food by up to 73%. 10% off all orders with the code COP2021 during the whole of November. PLANET kind, ANIMAL kind, HUMAN kind.”

This code works for you too, dear reader! Give it a try.

Our dedicated staff also held handwritten signs declaring messages such as “Animal agriculture = loss of biodiversity. 60% of mammals on earth are farmed animals, 36% human, and just 4% wild animals”. These are staggering numbers that people must learn about!

The streets were teaming with thousands upon thousands of passionate protesters, including our friends and fellow vegans Plant Based Treaty - all united under one cause: to reduce global warming and save our precious planet before it’s too late! It was a beautiful thing to witness so many take time out of their lives, even during the heavy rains of Saturday, to march side by side in solidarity.

We even had some loyal TVK customers approach us, which was a nice, human way to connect with those who we only normally get a chance to interact with through the wonders of cyberspace.

And, as the standout hit of the day, staff member Angus dressed in a large peace sign made from the "V" in "tVk" as our mascot! He couldn’t be missed in his tall, cool, black getup and was a fun talking point with the many marching well-wishers.

Posters

Last week also saw the launch of our brand new travel poster campaign. On trains and the Glasgow subway, keep your eyes peeled for our eye-catching new branding declaring The Vegan Kind delivers “Sustainable shopping made simple.” 👀

The Future

The powers that be must be forced to truly take in this moment and appreciate just how much influence they have - influence that could make huge, lasting change to save landscapes, animals, homes, and people before it’s too late. We could be on the cusp of a global, systemic shift in the way we live our lives. It was massively important for us as a Glasgow based vegan company to be present this weekend. Look out for more from The Vegan Kind throughout COP26; it’s not over yet.
