PETA Urges Gordon Ramsay To Make His Restaurants Vegan

Animal rights organisation PETA has urged Gordon Ramsay to make his restaurants vegan amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The charity wrote a letter to Ramsay requesting him to 'lay off animals, not staff' and urged the celebrity chef to reinvent his restaurants as fully vegan ventures.

Ramsay has laid off more than 500 staff after being forced to close down his restaurants during the coronavirus outbreak.

"Last year, Ramsay was quoted as saying, 'vegan is on the rise – we've got to adapt', and this sentiment has never rung truer," PETA wrote in a statement.

The charity is 'calling on Ramsay to think about the future and how society will want the world to be when this pandemic is over'.

The letter concludes that 'this is a great opportunity to put your creativity to use to help secure the future of the planet and all who call it home'.

Scientists believe that coronavirus started in November 2019 at a wet market in Wuhan, China where animals are kept, slaughtered and sold for human consumption.

PETA notes that such areas are the critical sites for transmission of diseases such as bird flu, swine flu, COVID-19, and SARS from animals to humans.
