Online Sales Of Hemp Milk Are Surging In 2020

Online orders for plant-based milk made from cannabis seeds have more than doubled since the beginning of the year. The data was revealed by UK-based Tea and Coffee Company.

The hemp milk is popular in the tea and coffee sector thanks to its extra creamy texture and high performance in hot beverages.

“Hemp milk has reached store shelves in just a few places around the world such as in Europe where it has directed a lot of interest from the customers. The market is expected to expand further into North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East in the coming years. Hemp products are expected to become most famous in the market,” Richard Smith, Partner from the Tea and Coffee Company, told Food Ingredients First. 

The market for dairy-free plant-based food and beverages is growing fast. The Tea and Coffee Company has reported an increasing number of customers are asking for plant-based milk replacement in their drink. With 93 per cent of Brits add milk in their tea, hemp production creates a great business opportunity.

“It has an earthy, nutty flavour and its creamy consistency is ideal for non-dairy lattes or as a milk substitute in tea and coffee,” says Smith.

Hemp milk has exceptional nutritional value, and that makes it especially attractive for the consumers. It contains more calcium than dairy milk, minerals, high-quality plant-based protein, added omega 3, and six fatty acids for healthy brain, heart and skin. It also helps to boost your immune system. 

Cannabis seeds milk is also known for its quality performance for coffee and tea applications, makes it particularly popular among customers who like flavoured coffee drinks.

According to hemp milk producer Good Hemp, the product doesn’t split, compared to other vegan alternatives. Hemp milk has a creamy texture and is thicker than other plant-based milks. It is also allergen-free and GMO-free. 

A 2019 study by a US company CoMax revealed that 14 per cent of shoppers who used dairy-free flavoured coffee creamers purchased hemp milk, with Toasted Oats, Almond and Chocolate being the most popular flavours.
