Hong Kong-based company Green Monday, the owner of plant-based meat brand OmniFoods, announced it is launching two new products.

Vegan lunch meat similar to SPAM called OmniPork Luncheon Meat and a plant-based pork shoulder called OmniPork Strip will debut at Michelin-starred restaurant Ming Court and a vegan eatery Kind Kitchen in Hong Kong.

According to a press release, Omnipork Luncheon Meat is “the world’s first luncheon meat made entirely from plants.”

The vegan versions of spam and pork strip are made from soybeans, wheat, beets, and coconut oil to provide consumers with a better choice with less sodium.

Green Monday launched its first plant-based product, Omnipork, almost two years ago. The meat-free ground pork is made from shiitake mushrooms, pea, soy and rice protein.

Omnipork is available in nearly 40,000 retail and foodservice locations in six Asian countries, including Starbucks in China.

Canned meat is not very healthy, but it became extremely popular in Asia thanks to American soldiers who brought it there during the Second World War.

“Luncheon meat is a food that everyone in Asia has a love-hate relationship with,” said David Yeung, CEO of Green Monday.

“Eating isn’t just about filling up our stomachs and absorbing the daily nutrition we need. It’s also about satisfying our cravings. So I am very excited to finally provide a healthier plant-based alternative.”
