A brand new entirely vegan eatery opened in the city centre of York last week.
The Orchid Vegan is located at 16, George Hudson Street and takes place after Thida Thai.
The menu includes vegan meat dishes made of plant-based protein such as duck, lamb cumin skewers and vegan beef in black bean sauce. The venue has joined the Government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme which means that every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August, it will offer half price food and drink, up to a total value of £10 per person.
Recently, York won the ranking of the UK's healthiest cities with 471 points in total.
The HealthRate Index was created by financial services firm Bankrate which analysed the amenities surrounding the high streets. Each city was awarded a score based on the healthy life choices, social interaction and mental wellbeing they promote. York has a lot of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants located in the centre which promote healthy lifestyle.
A spokesman for Bankrate said: "York’s high score can be partially attributed to the large number of vegan-friendly restaurants - it has 162 - surrounding the high street."
