New Vegan Milk Launches In The UK And It's Made From Earth’s Most Sustainable Plant, Hemp

Biotech company Gaia’s Farming Co., has launched its first two products - the deliciously creamy ‘Hemp & Oat M*lk’ and extra chocolatey ‘Hemp & Coco M*lk'

New biotech company Gaia’s Farming Co., has launched its first two milk alternatives made with hemp and oats.

The deliciously creamy ‘Hemp & Oat M*lk’ and extra chocolatey ‘Hemp & Coco M*lk’ are now available to buy online for the first time.

The start-up has developed a unique hemp and oat blend; producing a barista-standard plant-based milk that is free from soy, dairy and gluten and contains no added sugar, colours, flavours, or preservatives.

Why hemp?

Already in the UK, 1 in 3 people have adopted plant-based milk, with oat currently being the most popular option for consumers. However, nutritionists are increasingly concerned about the sugar content of oat milk.

Hemp on the other hand, a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant, hosts an array of incredible health and environmental properties far superior to oats. Hemp grows incredibly fast, absorbs four times the amount of carbon than trees (per acre) and can even replenish soil in-between crop cycles…and that’s not all.

Most of the fat in hemp seeds is unsaturated essential fatty acids which can improve blood cholesterol levels, stabilise heart rhythms and ease inflammation. The ratio in hemp of omega-6 to omega-3 is between 2:1 and 3:1 — a ratio optimal for human health, and it also contains all the essential amino acids that your body needs to function.

Hemp’s nutritional profile makes it the perfect ingredient for a milk alternative that goes above and beyond many options currently in the market. Mixing it with oats allows Gaia’s Farming Co. to come into the market with a familiar face for consumers to try.

The brand is backed by seasoned plant-based investors such as Tommy Chiabra, investor in Beyond Meat and co-founder of Neat Burger and has bold plans to shake up the alternative milk market and beyond.

Michael Kyriakou, Founder and CEO of Gaia’s Farming Co. said: “I’ve watched over the years as companies have brought out all sorts of plant-based milk options, but none of them jumped out at me as a sustainable solution to dairy milk for the foreseeable future. Yes, plants are great, but I asked myself why they were not using the most sustainable one. Once I started learning about the multifaceted abilities of hemp, that was it. I knew that hemp was the solution to our milk problem and will go on to become a fundamental component of our strategy in the fight against climate change.”

Launched in December 2021, Gaia’s Farming Co. is a biotech company that processes hemp to create delicious and sustainable products. Looking to create a plant-based milk that was more than just another milk alternative, the company worked with farming professionals and microbiology experts to create its first two hemp-based milk products, which came to market in January 2022. Having signed the 1% Pledge, the company is dedicated to donating 1% of sales and 1% of the team’s time to causes that matter.

Gaia’s Farming Co. is also currently working towards being carbon negative.
