New Vegan-Friendly Sticker Campaign Will Help You Find Vegan Options In The UK

A non-profit organisation Vegan-Friendly UK has launched a certification program for vegan-friendly businesses.

The heart-shaped label aims to help restaurants and bars promote their vegan options.

The certification recognises restaurants as vegan-friendly if their menus offer a more extensive selection of vegan dishes. Meat and fish restaurants in which the majority of the menu is based on animal products will not receive the certification.

The organisation was founded in Israel with a mission of making veganism more accessible. This year the charity expanded to the United Kingdom in an effort to encourage local restaurants to add more vegan options.

Ofek Ron, Vegan-Friendly General Manager, said: “We will improve the visibility and exposure of restaurants which serve a minimum of 25-per cent vegan options by labelling them both digitally and physically”.

“We will also provide restaurants with free hands-on training and guidance on how to switch ingredients in their dishes to improve their vegan offering. In our Israeli venture, with our assistance, the restaurants we work with have been able to sell approximately 20 per cent more vegan dishes than before. This meant that these restaurants were, in turn, selling less meat dishes and more vegan dishes.”

For now, the Vegan-Friendly certification will be available online. Once the restaurants reopen after the COVID-19 lockdown, the heart-shaped stickers will also be visible at the entrance of vegan-friendly restaurants across the UK.
