Nearly Half Of Americans Plan To Buy More Plant-Based Milk

According to a new report released by consumer research company Piplsay, nearly half of Americans (47 per cent) plan to buy plant-based milk regularly. 

This number increases to 56 per cent in the millennial and generation X age groups.

The data was collected from 30,694 adults by survey service Market Cube.

The report shows that most of the participants tried almond milk (46 per cent), 12 per cent sampled coconut milk, 9 per cent tried soy milk, 5 per cent tried oats, and 4 per cent tested rice milk. Another 4 per cent sampled cashews milk alternatives. 

From participants who have bought plant-based dairy-free products in general, 46 per cent have tested milk, 14 per cent have tried butter, and 12 per cent have tried yoghurt. About 10 per cent or less of consumers sampled ice cream, cheese, and probiotic drinks. 

Thirty-nine per cent of plant-based dairy consumers chose the products for their nutritional value; 23 per cent do it to avoid allergens and antibiotic (15 per cent). Animal welfare and environmental issues are important for 13 per cent shoppers while 10 per cent of survey participants stated they didn’t like the taste of animal milk.

“More and more people today are giving regular dairy products a miss, and switching to plant-based alternatives.The industry, which is still in its infancy, is likely to see a huge spurt as major brands like Danone, Nestlé, and Unilever continue to invest heavily in it” - the report stated.
