Starting from 22nd of April you will be able to listen to the original sounds of nature from different places around the world without moving from your sofa.

Starting from 22nd of April you will be able to listen to the original sounds of nature from different places around the world without moving from your sofa, chair, desk, car or wherever you are.

Named earth.fm, the natural sounds platform is launching this Friday, celebrating Earth Day.

Earth.fm is a repository of immersive, natural soundscapes recorded all over the world by professional sound recordists and soundscape ecologists. Each of the 445 soundscapes from 84 countries, which span a variety of landscapes from forests, rivers, oceans and prairies.

The non-profit platform broadcasts these soundscapes completely free, only requiring optional donations, with the aim of supporting the charities involved in the restoration of our natural world.

Positive impact on our wellbeing

Listening to ‘biophony’ or natural soundscapes has been proven through numerous recent studies worldwide to have a positive impact on our wellbeing (particularly as part of a mindfulness practice).  Additionally, these natural auditory environments are becoming increasingly scarce, as our growing population continues to encroach on the natural ecosystems which produce them. This makes recording and showcasing these soundscapes a particularly important commitment towards respecting, promoting and protecting nature.

How it works

Earth.fm created an interactive map to showcase rare natural soundscapes and local grassroots charities and is also launching a weekly podcast with curated one hour high quality, immersive soundscapes recorded in binaural sound.  All recordings are offered for free, with donations encouraged to the recommended local charities.

Supporting non-profits around the globe

As well as showcasing the work of outstanding acoustic ecologists all over the Earth - such as George Vlad of Mindful Audio and Marc Anderson of Wild Ambience - Earth.fm will also be highlighting over 15 local charities who are committed to local ecology work, connected to the related recording. The team is working with charities such as; Eden Projects for their projects in New Zeeland and Vietnam, Reforesta in The Netherlands, International Tree Foundation for their efforts in Nepal and Solomon Island,  and Koosloodus who are supporting reforestation projects in Estonia.

Earth.fm seeks to help protect and regenerate natural ecosystems while reconnecting us to nature.
