British plant-based meat brand Moving Mountains is launching its vegan 'bleeding' burger made from plants in retail.

The brand announced the news on Instagram saying: "You asked, we listened. You wanted our plant-based Burger at home, so that's exactly what you'll get!" "For the first time ever the Moving Mountains Burger will be available in UK retail, when it was previously exclusive to restaurants - are you ready?"

Moving Mountains developed the product in collaboration with scientists, chefs and farmers in 2018. It took them over two years to create a vegan burger that looks, tastes and bleeds like the traditional meat. When cooked it sizzles, smells and browns like a beef patty.

The burger is made using only natural ingredients: the coconut oil provides a fatty consistency; wheat and soy protein and mushrooms help mimic the meaty texture; beetroot juice allows the juicy bleed in the centre of the patty; potatoes give a crispy crust. The vitamin B12 was added to provide the full nutritional value of the meat.

The burger contains 20g of protein and has no cholesterol, no antibiotics, no hormones.

Moving Mountains' vegan meat is better for the planet. Its production process requires less land, less water and produces fewer greenhouse emissions than traditional beef.

The company aims to convert the most committed meat-eaters by providing them with a product that perfectly mimics the texture, flavour and experience of eating animal meat.

Simeon Van der Molen, Founder of Moving Mountains, said: "We are passionate about creating food that is sustainable but doesn't compromise on taste, providing a viable alternative for vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Our convenient frozen format will mean more people than ever will be able to enjoy our products."
