Fast-food giant McDonald's will start testing the plant-based McPlant burger in a few locations in the US.
Fast-food giant McDonald's will start testing the plant-based McPlant burger in a few locations in the US.
The new burger was co-created in partnership with plant-based meat company Beyond Meat.
The McPlant includes a meat-free patty from Beyond made from plant-based ingredients like peas, rice and potatoes. The patty is served on a sesame seed bun with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and a slice of American cheese.
The plant-based menu trial will begin on November 3rd in select restaurants in Texas, Iowa, Louisiana and California.
The McPlant will be available in 8 restaurants for a limited time. Sadly, it won't be entirely vegan as it will be cooked on the same grill with meat patties.
McDonald's has taken a long time to introduce its first meat-free burger. The company claims it wanted to learn more about the longevity of meat alternatives and study the consumer demand for such products.
McDonald's biggest competitor Burger Kind introduced its plant-based menu items over two years ago.
McPlant has been available in several countries worldwide, including Sweden, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
