British vegan racing driver Lewis Hamilton broke Formula One’s all-time record after winning the 92nd Grand Prix win at the Portuguese Grand Prix last Sunday. The 35-year-old Hamilton received a standing ovation from the 27,000 crowd gathered on the circuit in Portimao, Algarve. Hamilton celebrated the victory with his family and his dog Roscoe which is also enjoying a vegan lifestyle.
The record was previously held by racing legend Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton wrote on Instagram: "Today is beyond my wildest dreams. I couldn’t be here today without my team, continuously innovating and pushing the barrier in this game. I’m so grateful to have you guys by my side through this journey.”
“It doesn’t matter how many Sundays we do this, it’s always a challenge. None of this has been easy. It’s been such a privilege to work with you all. I’m thinking of Michael today, I will forever have the utmost admiration and respect for you, it’s truly been an honour to be mentioned in the same sentence as you.”
Lewis Hamilton has been vegan since 2017 and is one of the best ambassadors for the vegan movement. On various occasions he praised vegan diet for his great health and sports performance.
He often uses social media to talk about issues related to the racism, environment and animal welfare.
