Plant-based pioneer Jack & Bry has won a coveted 2021 Great Taste award for its sumptuous jackfruit burger.
Plant-based pioneer Jack & Bry has won a coveted 2021 Great Taste award for its sumptuous jackfruit burger a week after the launch of the brand’s partnership with Pizza Express
The Great Taste awards, run by the Guild of Fine Food in the UK, are known as the world’s most trusted food and drink awards. The awards are highly respected seals of approval recognised throughout the industry and are chosen through a panel of 500 experts comprising food writers, chefs, buyers and retailers.
One of only three burgers to win an award in the ‘Plant-based To Be Cooked’ category, and one of only six winning jackfruit entries across the entire Great Taste awards, Jack & Bry’s burger stands alone as the only jackfruit burger to win a Great Taste star. The gourmet burger is made up of 60% pure young jackfruit and a variety of specially selected ingredients that add depth of flavour and help elevate the familiar taste of meat to the next level.
The news builds on an already stellar month for the brand, which last week announced a significant nationwide partnership with Pizza Express. Jack & Bry’s pepperoni will be featuring on Pizza Express’ new vegan menu and in its new, entirely vegan restaurant in London. The announcement added another respected name to an already impressive list of partners, with Jack & Bry also supplying Papa John’s, Prezzo, Zizzi, One Planet Pizza, Harbour Lights fish and chip shop and more with alternative meat products made from jackfruit.
Available to consumers through Jack & Bry’s website and The Vegan Kind Supermarket, the award-winning burger is one of three consumer products available from the brand, which also offers jackfruit mince and jackfruit sausages.
Since its inception in 2019, the food tech business has been at the forefront of plant-based meat innovation. The focus is on jackfruit - developing a sustainable and climate-change resilient crop into a selection of delicious meat alternatives. The unique research and development behind Jack & Bry’s alternative meats has contributed to the incredible taste of the products: the jackfruit stays juicy and hugs in flavour like no other plant-based core ingredient.
Speaking about the award, Jack & Bry founder Bryony Tinn-Disbury: “We’re incredibly proud as a team to accept this award, all the work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure we’re making the tastiest, meatiest meat-free meats, it’s great to see our products being noticed by such an award.”
