If cooking on the hob you will need to soak the beans, preferably overnight. Make sure you cover them in plenty of water.

To cook on the hob, cover the chickpeas in plenty of water, bring to the boil and simmer for 1-2 hours (depending on desired tenderness).

To cook in the slow cooker, cover in water and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours. No need to soak beforehand, and this method makes very soft chickpeas - perfect for houmous!
