If you are used to buying chickpeas in a can, then you probably wondered how you use dried chickpeas in recipes? Dried chickpeas needs cooking, but it is totally worth it as you can control the texture which will vary between recipes, and they taste so much better! Keep in mind that dried chickpeas will triple in size when cooked too!
If cooking on the hob you will need to soak the beans, preferably overnight. Make sure you cover them in plenty of water.
To cook on the hob, cover the chickpeas in plenty of water, bring to the boil and simmer for 1-2 hours (depending on desired tenderness).
To cook in the slow cooker, cover in water and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours. No need to soak beforehand, and this method makes very soft chickpeas - perfect for houmous!
