The celebrity and vegan businesswoman is supporting Labour candidate Grahame Morris who is defending a 14,892 majority from the 2017 election in Easington.

Heather Mills’s factory V Bites is located in Easington constituency.

The factory employs around 50 workers at the former Walkers Crisps factory, with hundreds more expected to follow.

Mills, stresses she is not aligned to any political party. I her statement she said: “Grahame has supported VBites and championed East Durham to become the centre of plant-based food production in Europe.”

“Grahame wants to secure jobs and investment in plant-based food production, recognising it as the fastest growing sector in the food industry.I welcome his support and his ambition of making East Durham a world leader in the export of plant-based food.”- she added.

Morris said: “I greatly appreciate the kind words of Heather Mills. The loss of Walkers Crisps was a hammer blow and few thought we would be able to secure the return of food production at the site."

“We are fortunate to have Vbites, with a director and founder who understands our area. Plant-based food will only increase in popularity and I am determined to make East Durham the centre of this fast-growing industry bringing much needed jobs and investment.” - he said.

Walkers Crisps factory closed after half a century in December 2017 with the loss of 350 jobs.

Heather Mills bought the facility a year ago and started the production of vegan foods earlier this year with staff working on an order to supply 500 million vegan burgers to the United States.
