Greta Thunberg Donates $100,000 To Help Children Affected By Pandemic

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg has donated $100,000 to help the children affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The money comes from a prize Greta received recently from Human Act, a Danish worldwide development organization which awarded her for her global activism.

Thunberg decided to give the whole sum to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and The Human Act has pledged to contribute another $100,000 to launch a campaign aimed at protecting children at the time of the crisis.

According to the press release, the money will support UNICEF in its "efforts to protect children from food shortages, strained healthcare systems, violence and lost school days".

UNICEF will provide the healthcare systems in poorer countries with essentials such as soap, masks, gloves, hygiene kits, and protective equipment.

"I'm asking everyone to step up and join me in support of UNICEF's vital work to save children's lives, to protect health and continue education," Greta Thunberg said "Like the climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a child-rights crisis," she added.

" It will affect all children, now and in the long-term, but vulnerable groups will be impacted the most."
