Fifteen of the UK’s top bakers have been invited to take part in a new ‘Bake Me Vegan’ competition to help promote plant-based baking and encourage traditional cooks to incorporate more vegan recipes.

The competition is a collaboration between Holy Lama Spice Drops and The Vegan Society. Finalists will be shortlisted by The Cake Whisperer herself GBBO’s Val Stones, Tom from popular blog Project Vegan Baking and Ericka Durgahee from the Vegan Society, before followers of Holy Lama Spice Drops vote for the final winner.

Each competitor is set to receive a box of vegan goodies and will have two weeks to create a vegan treat using as many of the ingredients as possible.

All ingredients are registered with The Vegan Society’s Vegan Trademark - including a selection of four Spice Drops, Rebel Kitchen Plant Mylk, Oggs Egg Alternative Aquafaba, Doves Farm flour and biscuits, The Vegan Society’s VEG 1 multivitamins, Moo Free Chocolates, and Emily Fruit Crisps .

Participants will post about their creation so the judges can review the entries on 12 August via an Instagram live and select the final six. The shortlisted entries will be posted on the Holy Lama Instagram feed where the winner will be decided by the brand’s followers.

Val Stones, baker extraordinaire, has this advice for the competitors: “Be sure to listen to your bakes. They are ready when they have stopped singing. And keep moving or dancing while you’re waiting for it to cook- it’s good for the soul!”
