Great British Bake Off Announce Vegan Week! Vegans are left drooling after GBBO finally introduce a challenge dedicated to delicious cruelty free delights!

Noel Fielding’s new Elvis inspired hair cut isn’t the only thing Great British Bake Off fans are excited about. This year, the UKs most loved baking programme has announced that they will be challenging the contestants to a full ‘vegan week’ for the very first time!    This year, the bakers will have to forget their conventional ingredients list and start thinking about cruelty free alternatives for their show stopper creations – well, the biggest advice we can give is that they better start stocking up on the medjool dates and coconut oil now. Oh, and maybe invest in a Vitamix.    Of course, we all know just how delicious vegan desserts can be. With help from top vegan food blogs from the likes of Deliciously Ella, the Minimalist Baker or Vegan Richa, Bake Off classics like the Victoria sponge, chocolate gateaux, scones with jam and ‘cream’ and even the dreaded patisserie week recipes are no sweat.    Mary Berry really is going to be gutted that she is missing out on this one.    GBBO Worthy Bake - Deliciously Ella’s Famous Sweet Potato Brownies!     So, after 8 years of being on our screens, why has the Great British Bake Off decided to introduce a vegan week now? Well in the words of silver fox judge, Paul Hollywood, ‘veganism is growing’ and the show wanted to do ‘something different and something to represent what is happening in this country’.    Well shut the front door. Even Paul, the King of Cakes, understands that the3.5 million people in the UK who identify as being vegan actually like a pudding or ten as much as the next person. Hollywood has also said that he was ‘fascinated’ and ‘shocked’ by what was created by the bakers during the challenge. I mean, vegan dessert recipes do tend to be super creative when trying to find alternatives - aquafaba anyone?

It really is amazing to see veganism finally making an appearance on a show like the Great British Bake Off and for the bakes to be seen as not just for vegans but good enough and delicious enough for all.    Now, if you are like us at TVK, the aspiring baker inside of you is going to want to come out and cause havoc in the kitchen for the next 10 weeks, it is just that natural GBBO affect. This got us thinking about re-stocking our pantry in preparation and also about maybe buying another pair of eating pants?    If you fancy creating your own cruelty-free show stopper but are not sure where to start, then check out our list of vegan baking must haves and some of our favourite food blogs to ensure you are well-equipped for whenever Paul & Prue decide to pop round of a cuppa (we can all have dreams right?).    On your marks, get set..    BAKE!     Egg Replacer Baking Powder Coconut Butter Sugar Coconut Oil Agave Nectar Cocoa Powder Cream Chocolate Chips Flour Dairy Free Spread A bloody good cook book
