Britain’s Best BBQ report unveiled that Brits are looking for healthier options this summer.
Motorhome rental business Camptoo, has analysed the UK’s most popular recipe sites to discover what Brits will be cooking on their barbecues in 2021.
The research analysed all the grilling habits including favourite foods, ingredients and their nutritional value.
According to the study, a typical vegan barbecue dish contains 43% fewer calories than the standard British barbecue meat dish and takes just 22 minutes to cook (31 minutes less than a standard option), contains only nine grams of fat (compared to 20 in meat) and has a higher fibre content. However, a typical vegan option has a higher carbohydrate (22g) and sugar (10g) content.
The study also finds that the most popular vegan barbecue dish are falafel burgers, following pulled jackfruit as substitute for pulled pork and avocado is one of the most popular vegan ingredients.
Camptoo’s Head of Wanderlust, Ed Bassett said: “While there were no major surprises in terms of most popular meats or BBQ food types, there were some very interesting differences in terms of how recipes ratings and popularity was affected by factors such as calorie count and protein contents.”
“It’s nice to see exactly what meat alternatives are being used on barbeques… with the summer BBQ season fast approaching, this research has given us a flavour of what to expect on the grills across campsites up and down the UK,” he added.
