Bright Barley, the UK’s first barley-based milk alternative, won the Best Plant Based Drink category at the prestigious World Beverage Innovation Awards 2020.

The World Beverage Innovation Awards celebrates the most ambitious new products from both new and established brands in the global beverage industry.

Bright Barley scooped the award just seven months after their official launch. The company introduced their range of vegan shakes in May during the COVD-19 pandemic becoming the UK’s first plant-based, dairy-free milk made exclusively from Barley.

Recently forgotten, Barley is considered an ancient grain and has been used for food for thousands of years. Bright Barley hopes to bring it back to the forefront of the food industry.

“We are so excited to have won best plant based drink at the World Beverage Innovation Awards” says Jiali Jiang, founder of Bright Barley. “Launching during a Global pandemic was really tough but winning this award has shown the team that all our hard work and dedication has been recognised. We are on a mission to encourage consumers to switch to more a sustainable, healthier milk alternative, such as Barley, which is widely adaptable and can grow in any harsh environment. Our hope is that we can show consumers that this is the

drink of the future, ensuring that generations to come have something delicious, sustainable and nutritious to drink!”

Bright Barley shakes are available in three flavours - Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Coffee. Each 330ml carton provides a source of fibre, contains vitamins D & B12, are high in calcium, include no refined sugars and are low in fat. With the average adult needing at least 15g of fibre every day, the Bright Barley shakes allow consumers to reach a healthy fibre goal with 15.2g per serving.

With a big focus on sustainability, Bright Barley packaging uses Tera Paks, which are fully recyclable and made from paperboard. All the barley flour used comes from small organic farms in the UK, which practice sustainable farming methods,

The brand plans to launch unflavoured barley milk in 2021 to rival the dairy-free plant-based alternatives currently available on the market.
