US plant-based meat maker Beyond Meat announced that it would start selling cheap value packs of its meatless burgers.
The meat-free burgers will arrive at the supermarkets just in time for summer barbecue season.
Beyond’s burgers value pack will be available at supermarkets from June 22 for a limited time - until mid-August, or until supplies last, the company said.
The 10-pack has a suggested retail price of $15.99, which is closer to the price of beef in the US.
The juicy vegan burgers have 18g of protein per serving and are made with simple, plant-based ingredients with no GMOs, soy or gluten.
“With summer grilling season underway, we are pleased to launch Cookout Classic value packs nationwide at our most affordable price point to date, enabling more consumers to Eat What You Love™ while enjoying the nutritional and environmental benefits of plant-based meat,” said Ethan Brown, Founder and CEO of Beyond Meat.
“This forward-looking pricing represents an important milestone along our journey to make Beyond Meat more accessible to all consumers.”
The coronavirus pandemic has brought many changes to the food market.
The crisis hit the meatpacking industry and caused meat supply shortages. Shoppers concerned about COVID 19 links with meat started buying protein alternatives. More consumers also started cooking at home instead of eating in the restaurants.
All these factors led to massive growth in plant-based products sales.
According to Nielsen, sales of plant-based meats increased 168.5% in the week ended June 6 compared to the year-ago period.
