Fifteen of the UK’s top bakers have been invited to take part in a new baking competition organised in collaboration between Holy Lama Spice Drops and The Vegan Society.

‘Bake Me Vegan’ aims to help promote plant-based baking and encourage traditional cooks to incorporate vegan recipes into their everyday menu. Finalists will be shortlisted by The Cake Whisperer herself GBBO’s Val Stones, Tom from popular blog, Project Vegan Baking and Ericka Durgahee from the Vegan Society, before followers of Holy Lama Spice Drops vote for the final winner.

Each competitor will receive a box of vegan goodies including Spice Drops, Rebel Kitchen Plant Mylk, Oggs Egg Alternative Aquafaba, Doves Farm flour and biscuits, Vegan Trademark Vitamin Supplements, Moo Free Chocolates, and Emily Fruit Crisps and have two weeks to create a vegan treat using as many of the ingredients as possible.

Participant will post about their creation so the judges can review the entries on 12 August via an Instagram live and select the final six. The shortlisted entries will be posted on the Holy Lama Instagram feed where the winner will be decided by the brand’s followers. Make sure to visit the feed (@holylamaspicedrops) and like/comment on your favourite recipe to be a part of it!

Ericka Durgahee, Marketing Manager of the Vegan Trademark for the Vegan Society said: “When it comes to the amount of vegan food and drink items on offer, we’re really spoilt for choice. We know that there’s never been a better time to go vegan! We’re honoured to be working with Vegan Trademark holders Holy Lama Spice Drops on this competition. I just can’t wait to channel my inner Mary Berry and see what everyone comes up with!”

Tom from Project Vegan Baking added: “Plant-based baking has never been so exciting. Replacements for butter and dairy are abundant and we’re constantly innovating new ways to recreate and improve our favourite recipes without the animal products!”

Holy Lama Spice Drops are little drops of liquid magic that transform any recipe with authentic taste and aroma. Highly concentrated natural extracts that are not only vegan but gluten free, alcohol free, contain no added salt or sugar and no nasties – just pure, natural, instant flavour with no grating, chopping, peeling or mess, and no waste. With over 30 varieties in the range, the opportunity for creativity and flavour alchemy in the kitchen is endless!

Gouri Kubair, MD of Holy Lama Spice Drops, said: “I’m really excited to be hosting this competition. Holy Lama Spice Drops® are the unsung heroes in many kitchens as they are incredibly versatile and deliver perfect flavour every time. We weren’t sure if bakers realised they are vegan certified and so wanted to do something to raise awareness amongst this growing and increasingly important audience. We can’t thank the Vegan Society enough for supporting us on this.”

Val Stones, baker extraordinaire has given a final piece of advice to the competitors: “Be sure to listen to your bakes. They are ready when they have stopped singing. And keep moving or dancing while you’re waiting for it to cook- it’s good for the soul! But most of all, experiment with flavours and for that use your Spice Drops!”
