Babybell Plant-based Is Here and It's Green!

The plant-based version of popular classic cheese snack was launched for Veganuary 2022.

French dairy giant Bel Group has released a vegan version of its classic Babybel cheese for Veganuary 2022.

The company says the product is a "fun and delicious" alternative to traditional chees and "perfect for vegans and those looking to enjoy a delicious snacking experience while reducing their dairy intake".

The cheese alternative is made with a blend of coconut oil and starch. It is a great source of calcium and vitamin B12 and has fewer calories than the traditional version.

Every 20g vegan roundel has 50 calories and contains 3.6g of fat, compared to the original dairy version with 62 calories and 4.8g of fat.

The new product contains marginally more salt than the dairy version, at 0.38g per portion compared to 0.36g, and it's free from artificial colours and preservatives.

The dairy-free version is wrapped in green wax to differentiate the vegan cheese snack from the traditional red Babybell.

The plant-based green Babybells are Vegan Society approved.

The new product is stocked in select supermarkets from 1st January, with the national launch coming right after.

Ollie Richmond, brand manager at Babybel, commented on the launch: "We've seen overwhelming demand for the development of a vegan-friendly Babybel over the years, and with the plant-based market continuing to grow substantially, the new launch is perfectly timed to meet this consumer appetite."
