Applewood is launching a new version of the popular vegan product - Applewood Vegan Slices.

The UK cheesemaker that has been producing traditional dairy cheese for over 56 years, debuted its first vegan cheese last year.

Applewood Vegan was a hit among customers, and it flew off the shelves within the first 24 hours on sale.

Accredited by The Vegan Society, the non-dairy cheese alternative is made with a coconut base, and it’s fortified with added B12 and calcium. It has a smoky flavour similar to Applewood’s signature smoky cheeses and is free from dairy, soy, and gluten.

The new sliced product melts like the real cheese, and it's perfect for sandwiches, toasts and burgers.

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Lisa Harrison, the Senior Brand Manager for Applewood said:

“We are in no doubt that these slices will be a huge hit with our customers as the block has been flying off the shelves since it launched in September 2019, because it really does taste as good as the reviews say!”

The vegan cheese alternative is produced in partnership with Vbites and will be available to buy online.

VBites founder Heather Mills said: “There’s no lactose, milk, eggs, soya, nuts or gluten in Applewood Vegan, it’s dairy free and cholesterol-free but it’s packed with the taste that vegans, veggies and flexitarians want in their sandwiches and lunch boxes.

“And because it melts wonderfully but still keeps its flavour, something which was important to 88% of people in our taste tests, it’s perfect for all sorts of dishes from toasties, pizzas and pastas to baked potatoes and cheesy nachos and even fondue.

“At last, for those thinking of changing their diet because of health, ethical and environmental concerns, there’s no need to worry that you’ll miss the taste of cheese.”
