A Third of Brits Choose Plant-based Food When Eating Out Because It’s Better For The Planet

Following this trend, more and more restaurants partner with plant-based meat companies to launch more sustainable menus.

Ahead of Earth Day, the demand for more ethical dining grows in the UK.

With more and more diners seeking climate-friendly menus in restaurants - recent research carried out by Meatless Farm and Brakes found that nearly one third (28%) of Brits choose plant-based food on a menu when eating out because it's better for the planet.

More and more dining venues across the country partner with plant-based meat companies to launch new sustainable, plant-based dishes.

Replacing meat with super realistic meat alternatives on the menus offers an accessible option that doesn't compromise taste, which is what the customers are looking for.

Established in 2010, The Alchemist is a creative cocktail bar and restaurant following this massive trend. The company announced a new partnership with plant-based meat producer Meatless Farm to freshen up their menu with sustainable, plant-based dishes, right on time for Earth Day 2022.

The vibrant new meals are designed to celebrate the sustainable efforts of The Alchemist, who recently announced their Carbon Neutral status, and are tailored to a variety of dietary requirements. Using Meatless Farm's range of plant-based products, the new menu is now 58% vegetarian, 38% gluten-free and 44% vegan to cater to the increase of meat reducers as almost half of the UK (43%) plan to eat more plant-based food this year.

Morten Toft Bech, Founder of Meatless Farm, said: "It's fantastic to partner with a creative and innovative restaurant like The Alchemist who are putting sustainability top of their agenda. We can see that diners want more plant-based options on menus to do their bit for the planet, and we're delighted to be able to offer this with tasty meat-free alternatives nationwide."

True to their famous mixologist style, the new plant-based offerings fit with The Alchemist's classic worldwide cuisines, but with a plant-based twist thanks to Meatless Farm. Diners can choose from the following tasty dishes: Meatless Farm Korean Chicken Bites, Meatless Farm Salt & Pepper Chicken Bites, Crispy Bao Buns with Meatless Farm shredded Duck, Meatless Farm Plant Burger, Cheese & Kimchi Toastie with Meatless Farm Bacon Bits, Scorched Caesar Wedge with Meatless Farm Bacon Bits and Loaded Fries with Meatless Farm Bacon Bits.

Alongside existing sustainably sourced favourites, the new Meatless Farm range fits in perfectly with The Alchemist's innovative and creative menu, ensuring both flexitarians and vegans.

The new menu is available in The Alchemist restaurants nationwide and offers vegan-friendly desserts.

Commenting on the partnership, Culinary Director at The Alchemist, Seamus O'Donnell, said: "We've really tuned into our guests and team members' feedback and have worked our food offering to bring it even further in line with the sustainable efforts of the brand. We understand that many people have dietary requirements and are choosing a more Flexitarian lifestyle."

The Alchemist's creative cocktail bars and restaurants can be found across the UK, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Cheltenham, Oxford, Nottingham, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

*The data comes from the research carried out via OnePoll among a nationally representative sample of 2,000 adults between 14/03/22 and 15/03/22.
