51 % Of Brits Would Be Open To Making Part Of Their Christmas Dinner Vegan

2,000 British adults were asked to comment on their festive food preferences,

As we get so close to Christmas, take a look at this hot-off-the-press research conducted on behalf of plant-based brand Over The Spoon.

2,000 British adults were asked to comment on their festive food preferences, and the results show a striking shift away from traditional Christmas food.

Over half (56%) of those surveyed said they’re unsure, or definitely won’t, be eating traditional plum pudding after the turkey this year. This shift is particularly striking when it comes to younger consumers. 59% of under 35’s say they are steering clear of the traditional Christmas pudding.

Almost a quarter of Brits surveyed said they’d rather eat trifle or chocolate pudding than Christmas pud on the 25th of December.

Brits willing to try a vegan option at Christmas. Over a half (51 %) respondents would be open to making part of their Christmas dinner vegan.

However, 31% of meat-loving Brits say they’d be unwilling to give up pigs in blankets, turkey or stuffing.

With a growing number of Brits moving away from traditional Christmas pud, Over The Spoon are on a mission to spread some sparkle with their dairy free, gluten free and totally vegan desserts.

Based in West Yorkshire, Over The Spoon’s mission is to create favourite desserts that taste sublime – they just happen to be dairy freed! A no compromise experience is the only way to get more people making the swap to dairy free more frequently and to make a change to the planet. Sourcing high quality, sustainable ingredients is what makes Over The Spoon’s desserts so unique.

Worldwide, the dairy industry contributes 3.4% of the global annual greenhouse gas emissions, making it close to the combined contribution from aviation and shipping combined (which are 1.9% and 1.7% respectively). Although milk alternatives are growing rapidly, it is a big leap for many consumers to have almond milk in their tea – desserts are one of the easiest and tastiest ways to cut down.

In July 2021, the business rebranded from Freaks of Nature to broaden its appeal.
