According to a new poll, 20 per cent of people will prepare an entirely vegan Christmas dinner this year.

Cheese brand Applewood asked over 2,000 people about their Christmas dinner plans. The survey found that one in five people would buy only vegan products for Christmas dinner guests, even if only one of the guests is vegan.

Additionally, 74 per cent of participants said they would be ‘looking to buy plant-based alternatives to cheese’ to enjoy during holidays.

This year more people than ever will have a plant-based Christmas dinner. It is very good news for our planet.

More families opting for vegan food means less harm to the environment. Vegan Christmas dinner has half carbon emission compared to a traditional dinner.

The report by Satsuma Loans indicates that meat-based Christmas dinner for a family of six emits 23.5kg. In comparison, a vegan Christmas dinner only emits 9.5kg of C02 into the atmosphere.

Lisa Harrison, Senior Brand Manager for Applewood® Vegan and Mexicana Vegan, said: “Research shows that vegans and vegetarians look set to make up a quarter of the British population in 2025, and eating a vegan diet could be the ‘single biggest way’ to reduce our environmental impact on Earth.

“But, we were surprised by our survey results that show people are increasingly willing to forgo their traditional Christmas foodie treats for healthier alternatives even when it makes cooking vegan for the whole family.”
