Dark speckled lentils give you Puy-style character at an everyday price – small, slate-flecked lentils that stay firm and nutty when cooked.
High in protein and fibre, with 24g of protein and 8.9g of fibre per 100g, dark speckled lentils are naturally gluten-free and suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets. They hold their shape through cooking, so they never turn mushy.
Are dark speckled lentils the same as Puy lentils? They are the same style of lentil – only those grown in the Le Puy region of France can be sold under the Puy name. Ours are grown in Canada.
Do they need soaking? No – just rinse well and simmer until tender. They take a little longer than red split lentils but keep their bite.
Want the organic equivalent? Choose our organic dark green French style lentils – the certified organic version of this style.
Available in 500g, 1kg, 2kg and 3kg resealable pouches, plus a 25kg bulk sack for trade. (Some large sizes may have non-resealable packaging.)
