Applewood vegan version of the cheese is so popular among customers that the company struggles to keep up with the demand for its product.

Applewood, a traditional cheese company that has been producing dairy cheese for more than 56-years, launched its first-ever vegan cheese in collaboration with VBites.

The smoked vegan cheese was launched on the UK market in September, and since then the sales have “continued to rocket”.

TheVeganKind Supermarket was the first online shop to stock the cheese. The product was an instant hit among the customers and it was sold out within the first 24h.

The demand for vegan cheese has been so high that the VBites company had to implement triple-shift overtime in the factory producing the cheese to cope with it.

VBites is a vegan food manufacturing company owned by Heather Mills.

Mills has praised the cheese, saying: "It's dairy-free, but it's packed with the taste that vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians want in their sandwiches and lunch boxes.

"And because it melts wonderfully but still keeps its flavour, it's perfect for all sorts of dishes from toasties, pizzas, and pasta to baked potatoes and cheesy nachos and even fondue.

"At last, for those thinking of changing their diet because of environmental, health, and ethical concerns, there's no need to worry any longer that you'll miss the taste of cheese."

Apple Wood Vegan is a coconut-based cheese alternative which is free from dairy, soy, and gluten. It is fortified with added B12 and calcium and has a smoky flavour comparable to Applewood’s signature smokey cheeses.

It has also been registered with The Vegan Society trademark to ensure consumers that it’s vegan.

“The success of Applewood Vegan has defied all expectations since it was launched,” an Applewood spokesman told The Grocer.

“The word spread so rapidly on social media that 40% of all stores sold out of Applewood Vegan on day one.”
